EU High Representative @kajakallas opened the Foreign Affairs Council by putting the spotlight on Ukrainian civilian detainees held in Russian-occupied territories. Kallas said the EU often discusses prisoners of war and abducted Ukrainian children, but civilians are also being detained — including teachers, journalists and other ordinary citizens. She said Ukrainian NGOs working on these cases were present at the meeting, as EU ministers discussed what more can be done to help secure the release of detained civilians. Kallas also said the EU is considering launching a platform to gather information, coordinate support and respond to the needs of those trying to free Ukrainian civilians.
