In June 2025, Russian forces captured the village of Shevchenko in Donbass. What they actually took was the crown jewel of Ukraine's mineral wealth — and a direct blow to the US-Ukraine minerals deal signed just weeks earlier. Here's what's at stake: 🪨 The deposit — 13.8 million tonnes of lithium ore, 1.5% lithium oxide. The largest in Eastern Europe. 90% spodumene — the cheapest, most efficient ore to process. 🇺🇦 The deal — Signed 30 April 2025. Ratified 8 May. Zelensky signed 12 May. Shevchenko fell 26 June.
