In 2009 Boko Haram launched an insurgency to establish an Islamic state, which has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people and the displacement of over 2 million. Their tactics include suicide bombings, abductions, torture, rape, forced marriages, recruitment of child soldiers and attacks against government infrastructure, traditional and religious leaders and civilians.
