Russia is deeply involved in its war with #Ukraine and in a broader geopolitical confrontation with Western countries. This consumes enormous resources. Against this backdrop, #Armenia is essentially stating that it will remain in the #EAEU until it is ready to join the #EU (or until it becomes an official candidate for membership — the legal distinction matters). In other words, Moscow fears not only the loss of its traditional influence over Armenia and the #SouthCaucasus, but, above all, the growing influence of the United States and the European Union in the region. It is therefore natural that the #Russia'n leadership would respond in this manner. This includes economic pressure, sanctions, and influence operations through the information space. I believe that despite Armenia’s efforts to strengthen cybersecurity and develop sovereign information infrastructure, the Kremlin will continue trying to exert pressure in this area as well — especially in light of the recent disruptions affecting Armenia’s mobile and internet communications. #ArmeniaElection #ElectionArmenia #Pashinyan #Putin #USA

The statement came amid a series of restrictions on the import of Armenian goods into Russia. In this context, it is worth recalling that the EAEU charter does not provide a mechanism for expelling a member state from the Union. Moreover, decisions within the Union are made by consensus.
